My responsibilities at the North Texas Daily include coordinating and designing special publications that supplement the student newspaper. These publications serve a few purposes. They exist to generate revenue for the student paper, inform the campus community over popular topics and to provide a training opportunity for students involved in the process.
The student staff and myself start by brainstorming ideas for topics. Once we all decide on the theme, I generate a list of stories to be assigned to students in the beginning writing class at the Mayborn School of Journalism. While students are writing the stories I start to coordinate the art. Gathering the art either involves me creating it or having a capable student contribute with photos or graphics. I then pull together all of the stories and art and design the issue and send it to press.
Here are a few examples of publications I have done. Click here if images do not load.
